Saturday Morphin'.

Got an interesting guestbook post from "Tai" recently, where it was exclaimed that "Transforers rule!!!!"

Thank you for informing me of this. I, personally, perfer TransforMers over Transforers, but what do I know, right?

Yeah yeah, I kid. Guestbook posts are always welcomed and highly encouraged.

I'm finished work at Comic Book Masters for the time being so, and so my time away from the makeshift classroom has afforded me a luxury that far too many take for granted: Saturday Morning Television.

You know what I saw today? I saw something so horrifying it made my eyeballs burst from my skull like two overripe cherries.

I saw... Power Rangers.

Ok, I exaggerate. It wasn't that bad. Some moments were actually fairly entertaining, I suppose. I caught the tail end of an episode of "Ninja Storm", and what had to be the first episode of the new "Dino Thunder", featuring the return of Tommy, the original Green Ranger. The episode was titled "Day of the Dino". How clever. The production values certainly seem higher than Power Rangers did back in the day, and there was actually some sort of plot. Of course, I made fun of it anyway. I mean, when you're introducing a character who's wearing an all red soccer uniform, do you think that maybe, just maybe, he'll be the new red ranger?

As is well known by know, my opinion on the original Sentai series isn't much better. But there is a similar show that I've become a big fan of, and it's currently available for free download. It's called Chou SeiShin GranSazer, and it rocks. It takes a lot of the better elements of Power Rangers (the transformations, the robots, the fighting, and so on) and throws away a lot of the lame stuff. It doesn't stick to one predictable formula either, and there's a pretty epic story line. Good looking girls too. If you're into Japanese live action like I am, check out a few episodes at TV-Nihon while you can and let me know on the board what you thought about it.

And, yeah, I watch the live action Sailor Moon series too. As a matter of fact, I watch it very carefully.

That's right, all you Yankee Crackas out there. Transformers Energon Ultra Magnus is mine!

So Transformers.com says that they're not going to be shipping any more of this guy, and thus an already hard to find and highly sought after Transformer goes through the roof in value. Well I don't care anymore, because I found one yesterday and snapped it up. Now it's mine! Bwahahaha!

The crazy thing is that, even though all of the parts were there and nothing seemed to be wrong with it, I'm 100% positive that the one I bought was a return. So someone bought it and opened it up, but than decided that they didn't want it any more and took it back to the store. Now tons of TransFans who don't already have one are either scouring their local stores looking for it or paying out the nose on eBay or whatever. Well I don't care because it's mine! Bwahahaha!

Earlier this week I also bought Transformers Universe Skywarp, a black and purple recolour of Beast Machines Jetstorm. He's a very cool looking toy that has been selling out rather quickly. Here's a pic of him alongside the Heroes of Cybertron version of his namesake.

If I could get my hands on the US exclusive Jhiaxus, then I'd have all the different recoloued releases of that toy. For some reason, accomplishing this goal is important to me.

Retro Animation in Canada!

Last weekend's anime convention in Toronto was ok, but nothing special. I will be doing a report, but not right away.

Hey Canadian kids! YTV has finally commited to showing Transformers Energon! Starts on April 16th with a special 3 back to back episode presentation. Plus, they're going to be showing Transformers: The Movie and GI Joe: The Movie! A great chance for us old timers to see the classics again, and for you youngers to finally see what made the toys of the 80's so cool. They'll also be playing Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker! Take a closer look by reading this press release.

My wrist is starting to feel much better. It still hurts a little if I move it too much, but the constant pain that I used to be in is more or less gone. I hope to start drawing again soon.

Godzilla Against MechaGodzilla (2002) was released on DVD today! Go and get ya some!

I'm just really too tired to work on the website right now. I don't know why, I just am. But hang tight. New stuff is on the way.

Slight change in plans and another convention.

Sorry folks. I had really hoped to have had updated by now. But my right hand has gotten worse, and I can barely type. I'm using just my left to type this right now. I'm in a lot of pain, so I just can't physically handle any work. So I'm just taking it easy, or at least trying to without going bored out of my mind.

Again, I remind everyone to sign up to the mailing list and you'll be notified as soon as the new stuff is ready to go. There are some very big updates on the way, including a whole new section of the website! I just need to polish off a few things, including the TransformersCon report.

Ice to see you.

So I went back to the doctor's office yesterday to see if the x-rays had shed any light on the problems with my wrist. There wasn't really much in the way of new information, though. He said that there is a possible fracture, which he mentioned the last time I saw him. There was something in the x-ray that should not be there, but no one is sure what it is. The exact language used was "a line", so I don't know if there's a crack or is someone opened up my hand and drew on there one day. It doesn't make a lot of sense though, because I never did anything to seriously injure myself that I can remember, so if there is a fracture, then how did it get there?

I go back in a month. Until then, the prescription is ice. I've got to ice my wrist every day. I have to take it easy and not push myself, so I can't really be producing a lot of artwork any more, which is not the news that I wanted to hear, but I'll have to deal with it. I've been working hard to finish off one more piece for this site, but after that things will slow to a trickle.

Here's some good news, though. Batman and Superman Animated box sets? Could it be true? Finally? YES!

Goodbye to the big G, again?

I have hardly gotten any sleep at all in the past week. Tuesday night I didn't go to sleep at all. I just didn't really feel like it. Spent Wednesday morning watching the first 2 parts of Lord of the Rings on a cable movie channel. I fell asleep towards the very end of The Two Towers, I guess when the nice soothing music was playing leading into the end credits. I suppose I didn't realize how high I had set the volume until after the credits, when the very loud promo for the day's upcoming films instantly shook me awake. I can't remember how long I was out for, but it couldn't have been more than 20 minutes. That must have been enough though, because I was wide awake for the rest of the day and well into the night. Aside from reading things about three-headed lizards that did not actually exist, I suffered no adverse effects. I hope.

Some cool stuff to report:

Godzilla's 50th anniversary movie will be called FINAL WARS. The director of the film "Versus" will be handling this one, staring 10 monsters, old and new. And it looks like this is indeed going to be the final battle for Godzilla, at least for the next 10 years. But they're going to go out with a bang! Read about it at CNN and Monster Zero.


Godzilla may be leaving us soon, but the world famous Japanese super hero Ultraman is being newly revived. Check out Henshin Online and read under "The Ultra N Project" for info on future plans, and a look at an incredible new Ultraman design.

The Crack of Doom.

Yeah, so Return of the King won it all. Hooray. There's no doubt that it deserved to win, but it's nice to see a film that's higher in concept than most typical Hollywood award-wining fair to take the top honors.

Early today I went to see my doctor about the pain in my wrist, Honestly, I really should have seen a doctor much earlier, but I was hoping that it would go away if I just took it easy for awhile. But it didn't go away, it just kept getting worse. So I told him about it and showed him where the pain was. He took a look at my other wrist and noticed how different the two look. One bone sticks out a lot more on the right wrist. I never gave it much thought because it's been like that for as long as I can remember, or at least I think it has, but apparently it's not supposed to be like that! So, according to him, repetitive stress is most likely part of the equation here, but this pain could actually be the result of a previous injury that I don't even know about. Something could be cracked in there!

So I went and got some x-rays done. I was told to hold one of those thick x-ray-proof pads over my crotch with my other hand. Hmm, that's reassuring. I go back to the doctor in a week. Not quite sure what to think about this now. One way of thinking is that it'd be nice if the x-rays didn't uncover any serious problem, but then again, a serious problem in there might explain everything, and I don't want to be left out in the dark about this. However, if repairing the problem leaves me without the ability to draw for a long time, I won't like that. I have bad thoughts about surgery and casts and the like. We'll see how it turns out.

I think the toughest part about all of this is that the mind is getting sharper. I've got ideas, I've got goals and I know that I can do great things. There's things that I want to try and do with my artwork, characters that I'd like to draw, techniques I want to experiment with, and so on. It's just that it's all out of my hands right now. Ok, well, it is in my hands, technically, err, one of my hands... arg, you know what I mean!

I'm having some fairly in-depth internal monologues about this whole thing. If I can't draw anymore, then what else can I do with my life? And I'm seriously considering other possibilities if it comes down to it. Nothing specific, but just coming to grips with the very notion of doing something else. I hope I never have to make that choice, but if worse comes to worse and I do, then I think I'm mentally prepared to do so.
